Bad Romance? The Lady Gaga inspired post you’ve all been waiting for…

Bad Romance?

I know you’ve heard of her. Lady Gaga has shot to fame thanks to her catchy songs, unforgettably questionable lyrics, insane outfits, and out of this world make-up and hair.

Question for you, and don’t deny the truth. How many of you have walked around singing her song, “Bad Romance”? I know I have caught myself singing it. It’s hard not to when it is blasting on almost every single radio station. And i’ll admit this: it’s catchy. Lady Gaga knows how to put out a catchy tune. For the record, I am not a fan of Lady Gaga; I have nothing against her personally, but I have a problem with the role model she is being to this generation, but that is not the point of this post.

I caught myself singing this song as I was driving home the other day, and I started thinking about what it actually says. She basically describes how terrible this person is that she wants, but she doesn’t care, she still wants him. She still needs him. The title in itself declares it to be a Bad Romance. Here are a snippet of the lyrics:

– I want your ugly

– I want your disease

– I want your everything as long as it’s free

– I want your drama

– You know that I want you, and you know that I need you

– I want it bad, your bad romance

– I want your love and

– I want your revenge

– I want your psycho

– Baby, you’re sick.

And I started thinking. The wheels in my brain started turning. Why would she want a romance with someone like this? Ugly, diseased, dramatic? Knowing from the onset that he’s like this, why would she want it, and need it so badly?

And then the wheel clicked, and I realized something. Do we not ourselves desire a Bad Romance with the world? We know that the world is diseased, ugly, spiteful, angry, dramatic, uncaring, unforgiving, and yet we still crave it. We still chase after it. We want a romance with the world

Daily, so many of us choose to give up a beautiful, pure, everlasting romance with Jesus Christ, and instead choose a sick and painful romance with the world. We chase after things that we know are bad for us. We chase after addictions that we know will destroy us.We chase after people that we know aren’t good for us. We chase after goals that we know will leave us empty. The most shocking thing to me is that WE KNOW! We  know the things that are bad for us, we know the people, the addictions, the sins, the lusts, the pleasures, the dreams – we know the ones that are TERRIBLE for us, and yet we still chase them because there is something sick inside of us that thinks we need this BAD ROMANCE.

We chase after it because it seems to be the cheaper option. Because we think that it’s free. Paying the cost of following Christ doesn’t interest us. Why give up the pleasures of day to day life? The world and all that that word entails may seem free right now, but we forget that it will cost us the greatest price: eternal life.

This romance with the world always leaves us wanting more. We are never satisfied, never left feeling complete. While it may seem the easier love now, we forget that following this love will lead us down toward the path of eternal darkness.

The romance with Jesus Christ however will lead us down a road of His joy, His peace, His love, His mercy. The greatest reward of all is being able to spend eternity with Him. It won’t be easy. Nothing ever is, but Christ is waiting with open arms to take you down a beautiful road with Him.

So which is it?

Do we want to continue in a Bad Romance with the world? The sick and diseased world?

Or do we want to have a beautiful, pure, exciting, fulfilling, everlasting romance with Jesus Christ?

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I  have drawn you with loving-kindness.” – Jeremiah 31:3

Often, I’ll say that I’m in a love affair with Jesus Christ, and it’s true! Words cannot even begin to explain the way I feel when I allow Jesus to woo my heart. For He isn’t wooing it for selfish purposes, selfish gains, selfish desires. He is wooing it, for He is the creator of it. It is first and foremost His. Our heart longs for the Savior just as He longs for His creation. Creator meets creation and the feeling is inexplicable. He won’t take it, though. You must willingly give it to Him.

I dare you to take that first step and enter into a romance with Jesus Christ. You won’t regret it. We were made for more than ugly, diseased, and dramatic. We were made for the PERFECT CREATOR!

This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. – 1 John 5:3-5

If you walk away with nothing but this I will be happy: God loves you! His love is guaranteed! Why not love someone who loves you sooo much that He actually died for you? Has anything you are chasing done that? I didn’t think so…

Lady Gaga can have her BAD ROMANCE; I choose Christ’s love everyday!!!
