For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person – though perhaps for a good person one would dare to even die – but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:6-8 (ESV)
Of all weekends, this is one of the most precious of the entire year. This is the weekend, that Christ Jesus willingly went to the cross for us. He shed His innocent blood that we might be saved. What what His motivation? Why die for humankind? Why did He die? Even the best human being on the planet isn’t perfect. Think of the nicest person you know or perhaps have studied over the course of your life: your mother, your grandmother, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Florence Nightingale, your baby brother, whoever. I do not care who comes to your mind when you think of peace and tranquility and goodness. Regardless, of what they have done or did or will do, they are still a sinner. They were born in the nature of Adam; therefore, they inherited the nature of sin.
Therefore just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all me because all sinned – Romans 5:12 (ESV)
In Adam, we are all dead. Our best deeds are counted as filthy rags before our Holy and righteous Savior. Who are we to even think that we are worthy to be deemed “good” or “kind” or “loving.” For, all the good that we do, we balance it out well with all of the bad. Our hearts are wicked, our minds are wicked, our deeds are wicked. We are born wicked.
All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away – Isaiah 64:6 (NIV)
AND yet! AND YET! Christ came and died for us. I want you to grasp the weight of this. Christ came and died to redeem you, me, and everyone else in this fallen world. Why? Because he LOVES us.
But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8 (NIV)
I know you’ve heard this a million times and a million more times, but until you feel the weight of it, until it takes you to your knees in thankfulness to your heavenly Father, you have not understood or grasped the full meaning of His love for each and everyone of us.
Christ came to earth, He shed His innocent blood – out of love for us. All we have to do is accept Him, put our full trust and faith in Him, and live in His everlasting, abundant love – the very love that was shed to save you from eternal damnation.
Rejoice in His love for you! Soak in the love He has for you. Live, like you are His daughter, His Son.
If you have faith in the Father, you are an heir to His kingdom. Make today your coronation day, and start dancing in the Love of your almighty Father!
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Chris! According to His great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. – 1 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV)
