Rooted in Christ

Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. – Colossians 2:6-7

The word Christian has the root word of ‘Christ.’ Many of us flippantly call ourselves Christian, but rarely do we act like the One we are meant to be rooted in. ‘Christian’ is not just a word we write down under our religious affiliations. Being a Christian should become our way of life. We should be rooted in Him just like the word ‘Christian’ is rooted with Christ. This means that we allow Him to take over every aspect of who we are. We submit our emotions, time, plans, will, body, and actions to Him. When you say you are a Christian, you are associating yourself with God. Therefore, your actions should reflect Him. He calls us to be holy. He calls us to have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control. If you say you are a Christian, take a look at your life. Is it characterized by those things?

When others see us, they should be able to immediately associate us with our Savior. They should see His light radiating through us. Becoming a Christian means we become an ambassador for Him. We are His representatives while on this earth. Our job is to tell others about Him. An ambassador should be filled with the Holy Spirit, excited about their message, ready to tell anyone and everyone about who they represent. Do you feel that joy? Do you feel that excitement?

When you were saved, God made you into a new person. He took away all of the ugliness of your sin, and He cleansed you with righteousness. You were made as white as snow. Instead of being enslaved to your sin, you were given the opportunity to be free in Him – free to love Him, serve Him, share about Him. He loves you. He died for you. He gave Himself for you. Our lives should reflect Him – the One who gave us life. Our goal should be share this love and joy with others. But we must be rooted in Him. Our lives must reflect Him.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. – Matthew 5:16

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. – 2 Corinthians 5:17-20

Are you rooted in Christ?
