On Top of the Box

Adventure is Worthwhile  – Amelia Earhart

I love the quote above. It sums up my daily thought patterns perfectly. In general, we need more adventure in our lives. It doesn’t have to be the jump on a plane and see the whole globe like Amelia did; but more of a trying something small, yet new in our daily lives type of approach. It’s too easy to get trapped in the routine box. You buy the same coffee, you go to the same restaurant, you drive the same route to work. No wonder many of us feel stuck in a rut. No wonder when small talk happens, it quickly falls flat because there’s nothing interesting, nothing of note to share. Everything is routine; everything is mundane. Life is too exciting, life is too full of adventures for it to fall flat in front of you. When we allow our lives to become mundane, a trapped feeling fosters inside of us, and before too long, we let the delusion that it will take too much energy to dig out to take over.

Part of the cure for this is more adventure. We need to break out of our comfort zone regularly. We need to challenge every aspect of our lives regularly, whether it be our reading lists, our grocery lists, our workout routine, our politics, or our religious beliefs. If we don’t challenge ourselves, we will end up stagnate. If we aren’t careful, stagnation will suck us dry. Time doesn’t wait around for anyone. There’s no time like the present to try something new. Today is better than any to challenge ourselves.

Choose today to take a little adventure, whether it be a new book, a new running route, or whether it be be just wearing something daring from your wardrobe, choose something TODAY. Whatever it may be, don’t allow yourself to get stuck in a rut. Choose to live on top of the box, not in it.
